What is it about Free Press that makes people nervous??
When I decided to go back to College, I never imagined I would be able to explore some of the incredible literature, and works of film that I have. We finished “All The President’s Men” with Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, I have to say it was extremely enlightening. What so many of us take for granted that actually is a part of our constitution is the freedom of the press or right to free speech.
There is so much garbage out there today, and “NEWS” is updated, by the minute online through blogs, online papers, it is all around us 24/7. I can remember Watergate, I didn’t understand it at the time as I was only a little kid. “All The President’s Men” is about the journalists for the Washington Post who broke that story. It is a good example of why the right to free speech is so important.
The right to free speech is one of the many checks and balances that allow us to speak up when something is not working right. It is why groups like “OccupyWall Street,” “MADD” “Humane Society” and many others should have a voice. Whether you agree with them, personally or not, that freedom should be there and we all should protect it.
We have become a society where the truth is harder and harder to find. Where spin-doctors, can make something unethical and wrong sound OK. We are constantly flooded with images of brutality and abuse of power every day.
Especially today when we know there are things we are not being told the complete truth about by the people in power that we should be able to trust. We are less able to get to the heart of what is really going on in our own country. This is one of those rights, we need to hold onto and protect. It is a part of what makes us Americans in a country where we are supposed to value our freedoms, not give them up…
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for aredress of grievances.
Its More then Just a Dream
- As a recently married 46 year old I am in the process of finishing my degree. Working to take care of my family and live my life.Blogging, working, writing, and chugging along like most of us. Who am I ? I am you, I am me, I am your mother, friend, the best and worst that we each have inside of us. I am a different perspective and find myself fascinated by the interesting moments in life.
