College Year Two

SO IT BEGINS........... AGAIN...

As I start my second year at OCC I can only say I feel I am better prepared for the challenges that are to come. Today many schools started their first day, some will begin tomorrow but for everyone whether you're a parent or student  our summer has come to an official close. If your a mom, putting your kids on the bus, or a dad dropping them off to school the hectic race has begun again.  Living at the shore I feel we have the advantage, we can run to the beach and not disrupt our whole day. Yet still get to enjoy the few remaining moments of summer on the sly.

Last year I had it easy with school as I was a stay at home mom. This year however its joining the many who juggle work, family, and school and still manage to survive and keep their sanity. Personally I love the challenge the outpouring of thoughts and ideas. We will see how it goes, if I have a melt down from too much going on or if I manage to find my way through to the end.

This was the summer of Karmic justice, which made me smile. As some things went full circle. It still amazes me how truly stupid some people can be. I am just thankful our life has gotten better, and that I can still find so much to be thankful for when so many have it so rough.

To give you an update, my one daughter has taken a break from school, and it is my sincerest hope that she will be able to go back for the spring term. She also has a very full plate as both a single mom and the breadwinner for her son. My youngest is still going to school although she is now working to help pay for her schooling. What I find most interesting about this is that so many of the young people out there change majors so often. To be blunt college isn't cheap yet many of these kids don't know what they want to do. They are unsure of what is the best path for them.

I am plugging along. We have put the wedding on hold until next September so I can hopefully complete school.Plus it gives us more time to plan since of course the guest list has gone up. How that happens I will never know. Life has become busy again with soccer, school and to much to list. I have gone from an eBay store to an Ecommerce store which I have to admit I feel pretty good about, since I had my first sale. I am still frantically trying to upload items from the other store in between and close them out. Juggle juggle juggle.

This is my first semester that I am not taking a journalism class, and I have to admit my professor from those classes was a great source of inspiration for thought. We will see how I do on my own.

This semester its World Literature, New Jersey History, Psychology, and Intercultural Communication. I am hoping that I will learn more about my state, and understand those around me better. Frankly at times I feel as if I don't have a clue about what people are thinking. I think that is how most of us feel at most of the time.

Sometimes Life is Messy

Today more than ever, there seems to be a bigger gap between families. What does the word (family) actually mean any more?
Movies, show us young couples not getting along with the families they have, or staying distant from them.  For me that seems like such a sad waste of time.

Our individual history, passed down from generation to generation is the greatest gift we get from our loved ones. We are allowed to be different, to have our own point of view but we still need each other.  Somewhere we have lost the ability to cherish what matters most.

Kids are not throw away, we don’t get to trade them in because we have a new husband or wife. You’re the adults, it’s your responsibility to keep that bond with them and keep it strong and (honest).
I find myself getting very angry when I hear about kids that have to grow up this way.  Because I know that deep down our generation is a big part of the problem.  We have bought into the selfish I/Me mentality that some screwed up part of our life has shown us. There is no justification for throwing out your kids; you made them it is your job to help raise them.

Stop with the excuses already, because they really are getting old. Or as my granddad always said, “Keep it in your pants unless your willing to pay the price!”
"We're so much more."

People choose to turn their backs on family for all sorts of imagined and sometimes real reasons. Who loses then?  I spent over ten years taking care of geriatric patients in a nursing home, and for a lucky few their families came in visited and looked after them. On the other hand, though, there were many who had no one, and there only interaction was the staff on hand.

Yes this is something I feel passionately about, so if your living in denial or pretending that its everyone else fault you don’t see your family, then WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!

Get a good therapist, (NOT A PARROT) who will tell you what you want, and work it out.

Here is some tough love, if you have kids spend time with them, even if its talking one on one they need your love. If you have parents who are old, for god’s sake take care of them, “THEY TOOK CARE OF YOU.” And if you’re in that in between where your parents are around, then stay in touch, get together for lunch once in awhile  go shopping be there for someone besides yourself.

Because Karma will put what your dishing out right back on your door. There is no sadder sight then an old man or woman sitting alone in a nursing home looking out the window for someone who isn’t ever coming.

At times not always politically correct, I still believe in the underdog and our rights to make decisions for ourselves.

Smoke Em If You Got Em

“Excuse me, please stay out of my space! its a 12 foot area that surrounds me, six foot out from every side of me.” It’s called the smokers zone, no please don’t walk through it pretending that you're gasping for air because you don’t smoke. Don’t make rude comments I really don’t appreciate them and it makes you look like a real jerk.

OOP's no he died in an
car.

I grew up in an era when people smoked on planes, trains, and on buses. If you went to the movies they would ask you, “please put your cigarette out before the movie started.” Many of our parents smoked, in the car all the time at the pool, the grocery store and yes even getting their hair done.

Yet when I began looking for statistic on people between the age of 30-50 who have died from second hand smoke there really wasn't a whole lot of actual facts out there. The statistics are taken from heart attacks, lung cancer, and SID’s can I call a foul here. At least 155 people die from diet pills, that isn’t counting those that are anorexic, bulimic, or who develop life ending side effects from using them.

Is it bad for you YES! but guess what, so is drinking are we going to bring back prohibition?  Maybe we should curtail the drinking of red bull, or diet pills because after all doesn’t that make you jumpy, effecting your heart. You could accidentally kill someone. Oh and while you're at it, if you or your spouse are taking blood pressure medication, you better give up your keys because I really don’t think it’s fair for you to put my kids lives at risk based on the possible side effects. Same for you if your over 70 your reflexes aren't quiet good enough for you to drive anymore.

Growing up many people smoked. Did it make us all weak and sickly? No! Our parents sent our behinds outside to exercise instead of sitting in front of a computer or video game. Why weren’t we all dropping with asthma or any of the other ailments that they are now linking to smoking.Because god knows it was all around us and over us. Also let's not forget those people who like to eat, you should have the right to say, "Oh no its salad for you you're too fat", right?

Yes, people die from cancer every single day, those who choose to smoke made that choice. Just like people who choose to work at a job where they're exposed to toxins in the air, it is a reality they all need to live with. Its a decision, like the decision we make when we go out for fast food instead of eating healthy.

My point is this, respect is a two way street. If you don’t smoke then walk away, that is your god given right. If you want to shove diet pills, red bull or even booze down your throat it is your choice not mine.I won’t tell you how to live your life or act like a twit and try to take away your freedoms. But hey, while I’m letting you live your life, Let me live mine.

Bullying is illegal or didn’t you hear that yet? Some of you out there are down right nasty and discriminating when it comes to smokers.

Its More then Just a Dream

As a recently married 46 year old I am in the process of finishing my degree. Working to take care of my family and live my life.Blogging, working, writing, and chugging along like most of us.  Who am I ? I am you, I am me, I am your mother, friend, the best and worst that we each have inside of us. I am a different perspective and find myself fascinated by the interesting moments in life.
